Pixel art

Alessandro “Zaebucca” Bucca
From Technical Foundations to Art Direction and Pitch
Throughout the class, each student will create a personal mockup or proof of concept for a game pitch of their choice. This creative workshop also offers a historical and technical overview of the medium, both in regards to videogame art and as a stand-alone form of art. The course is divided into 3 thematic modules. The first module, called “Pixel Basics” (8 lessons), will examine in-depth technical aspects of pixel art such as required software and formats, lineart, palette, resolution choices and animation. The second module, “Technical & Art Direction” (8 lessons) focuses on representation aspects and choices behind game development art such as perspective, sprites, tileset art, UI design and level design. A final module, “Pitching and Pipeline” (4 lessons) allows for students to finalize their mockups through pitch and portfolio review, also under the lens of gamedev pipeline.
